Getting started for the
first time F.A.Q's

If you are new to fitness, relax you’re in good hands now, and you won’t be alone. We’ve helped hundreds of people just like you to get started and make fitness fun and rewarding.

Here is some useful information and answers to some of the most commonly asked questions by many of our new members.

What should I wear?
What do I need to bring with me?
What happens during my fitness programme session!
How do I use the lockers?
Do I need ID to gain access to the club?
Is there CAR PARKING available?
Do I need to bring my own toiletries?

Should I eat before exercising?

Do I need to book each visit?

What do I do if I can’t remember what to do or if I want to try a new exercise?

Q. What should I wear?
A. Sportswear and trainers…no need to go out and buy the latest lycra outfit, wear whatever you feel comfortable in, T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms or shorts and sweatshirt…we have a non intimidating and relaxed atmosphere at the Club it’s not a fashion parade…good clean trainers are a must!

Q. What do I need to bring with me?
A. As well as your sportswear and trainers you need to bring a small gym towel to use while you workout, this is essential… we also recommend you bring a drinks bottle which you can fill up from the water fountain on the gym floor, alternatively, you can buy a bottle of mineral water from reception or the Clubs Café bar. Remember to bring a separate towel if you plan to shower after your workout. Towels can also be hired from reception if you prefer! You will also need to bring your swimwear if you want to use the Sauna and Steam rooms.

Q. What happens during my fitness programme session!

A. Your Fitness Instructor will discuss your exercise and medical history and also check your blood pressure on your first session…this is standard practice and nothing to worry about…all information is treated in the strictest confidence. The Fitness Instructor needs to know if you have any aches, pains or injuries, or any other medical considerations which could affect what you do in the gym. Your Fitness Instructor will also discuss how much exercise you have done in the past and what you would like to achieve from your new fitness programme. You will then spend some time in the gym using the exercise machines…don’t worry! the Fitness Instructor will show you all you need to know and everything will be done at your own pace…if you don’t like a particular activity or exercise simply tell the Fitness Instructor, you’re more likely to continue with a routine you like!

Q. How do I use the lockers?
A. Lockers are provided for the convenience of all our members! For security reasons please do not leave your personal belongings anywhere else in the changing rooms. Lockers are secured by padlocks, which members are required to provide…padlocks can be purchased from Club reception. Please do not leave your personal belongings in the lockers overnight… any items left in the lockers will be removed each night to lost property!

Q. Do I need ID to gain access to the club?

A. On joining the club, we will take your photograph on your 1st or 2nd visit and make-up a computerised membership card with your photo on it. You will need to bring this card with you each visit and swipe it through the scanner on the front desk on arrival at the Club…this is in order to validate your membership…the receptionist will help you with this if you have any problems…you are only required to swipe your card once per visit!

Q. Is there CAR PARKING available?
A. A large free car park is available for Club members to use, please observe all the no parking signs at all times and do not park around the Club building…as this causes obstruction / congestion and could also hinder access by the emergency services during a possible emergency situation!

Q. Do I need to bring my own toiletries?

A. No…complimentary shampoo / body wash and moisturiser are provided in the changing rooms, hairdryers are also available for use.

Q. Should I eat before exercising?
A. It’s fine to consume a light snack before you exercise provided you give your stomach at least 30 minutes to settle before you hit the gym… but it’s really up to you to gauge what works best for you…Carbohydrate snacks like fruit, toast or cereals are often the best options.

Q. Do I need to book each visit?
A. No…you only need book for your initial 3 one to one sessions, once you have your fitness programme set by the fitness team you can visit whenever you like. You can always get help and assistance from any member of the Fitness Team …please check at the fitness desk in the gym for the duty staff!

Q. What do I do if I can’t remember what to do or if I want to try a new exercise?
A. The Fitness team are always on hand to give you any assistance you may need…simply approach the team member on duty at the time, you can check the board on the gym desk to see which member of the fitness team is on duty.

REMEMBER…WE’RE HERE FOR YOU!
